Natural Indigo Dye is an extract prepared from Indigofera tinctoria which is cultivated for this purpose. Indigo is the legendary source of colourfast blues and its ability to produce a wide range of shades has made it the most successful dye plant ever known. Indigo grows all over the world but flourishes best in hot, sunny, humid areas. Indigo can give clear blues that range from the tint of a pale sky to a deep navy that is almost black. Our indigo comes from a farm in south India and is very strong (approx 50% indigotin). It reduces beautifully in an indigo vat. Obtained from the leaves of Indigofera tinctoria plant. The leaves are fermented in fermentation pits. The dye is precipitated by oxidation or by passing the air. The precipitated dye settles down at the bottom. The cake is dried in the air and sun. The dye is converted into leuco form with caustic soda and sodium hydrosulphite in soft water. The dyeing is carried out in the reduced exposed to air. By oxidation the dye slowly changes into blue on the fabric. The dyed material has good fastness to light and wash. Rubbing fastness is reasonably good. The illustration of the plant is enclosed. |

Brown Catechu Natural Dyes is an extract of acacia trees used variously as a food additive, astringent, tannin, and dye. The catechu mixture is high in natural vegetable tannins (which accounts for its astringent effect), Cutch is an important historical brown dye that comes from the heartwood of the cutch tree (Acacia catechu). It is a very easy dye to use and it is both light-fast and wash-fast, as well as being inexpensive. Cutch is an excellent dye for cottons as it is high in tannins, and it is also suitable for dyeing wool, silk, and cotton a yellowish-brown. Cutch gives gray-browns with an iron mordant and olive-browns with a copper mordant.
The selected cotton fabric is premordanted with natural mordants pomegranate and myrobolan. The selected acacia catechu dye is dyed for 90 min at 80° to 90°C with material – to- liquor ratio 1:20. Botanical Name | Acacia Catechu |
This powder is an extract prepared from steeping the wood of the Acacia catechu tree in hot water until a syrupy liquid immerges. This is dried and then ground into powder. It is common to most parts of India, Burma, Indonesia and Peru. Indian cutch is by far the most beautiful. It is a good source of colourfast shades of brown - cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. Cutch extract contains tannin as well as the dye compound catechu. It is easily soluble in water. Cutch has excellent light and washfast properties. It requires 20-50% WOF to dye a medium depth of shade.
The acacia catechu is known as cutch tree, terra japonica as well as black catechu. In hindi it is called khair. This plant was used majorly for the purpose of dyeing and tanning. The flowers of the plant are pale yellow in color and have cylindrical spikes. The flattened and glabrous fruit of the plant have oblong pods. This is a natural dye with reasonable good fastness to light, wash and rubbing. The dye is obtained from the left over of katha produced from the heartwood ofAcacia catechu. Katha is used as an edible paste and applied on betle leaf (Indian Pan).
The dye is soluble in soft water and can be applied directly on to various textile yarns and fabrics. Fixation of dye is carried out by treatment with metal salts such as Copper Sulphate, Aluminum Sulphate or Ferrous Sulphate. The dyed material has good fastness to light, washing and rubbing.
